If you see me collapse, pause my FitBit
Are you one of the 68.4% of people that carry a water bottle with you when go out weeknight jogging after work?
Because it’s better to be safe than sorry...
Because what if you get lost, or just really thirsty?
It’s best to take a water bottle out, just in case…
If you’re part of the human race that makes up the above 68.4%
I’m going to politely ask
Please stop with the water bottle
Not because you look silly, but for the reasons I’m about to give:
… The chances are you’re out the house for around 20-40 minutes
1. It will make no difference to your running time/ speed whether you drink the on board water or not
You’re body will not dehydrate when the exercise is under an hour
2. If you’re thirsty whilst running, you haven’t been drinking enough for the other 23 hours of the day
If you’re first drink of the day is when you’re out running, you’re already dehydrated
3. And worst of all, the water bottle is heavy!
It will weigh you down, you may get pins and needles in your hand and it’s awkward to carry
The take home point:
Any exercise you do that lasts under 1 hour
You must prepare your diet and hydration regime AROUND the exercise, before and after the event
Any nutrition strategy you adopt during the exercise, I would almost go as far to say, is a waste of your time
Think of this article as me giving you permission to go out naked (water bottle-less) running
And that you will make it home alive, all limbs attached
Running water bottles for us general pop, should be banned
